OVERVIEW: PROJECT MK ULTRA
Project MK Ultra is the code name given to the psychological tests that took place through the 50’s until the early 70’s. The CIA was behind most of it, and performed these tests on unwilling and unsuspecting victims. The vast majority of documents relating to this project were destroyed following the Watergate scandal over fears of discovery. However, some documents survived and gave us what little information we know.
TED KACZYNSKI: WHO WAS HE?
Ted Kaczynski had a good future ahead of him. He earned his Bachelor's at Harvard then his doctorate at UMich. He was the kid no one ever hung out with because he usually kept to himself. After quitting his job as a professor at UC Berkeley after receiving complaints on his bland teaching style, he moved to Montana with the idea of living a simple life. However, this dream was disrupted when construction was taking place nearby destructing wildlife. Kaczynski then dedicated to his life to sociological and physiological studies, performing minimal acts of sabotage. Between 1978 and 1995 he sent a multitude of hand-made bombs to locations all around the United States, killing 3 people and injuring 23 targeting many university professors or influential people in science. Kaczynski attempted over 20 bombings though he only succeeded in 3. He was caught in 1996, attempting suicide while awaiting his 1998 trial, and he has been there since.
GOT QUESTIONS? WE GOT ANSWERS.
Project MK Ultra was a series of experiments conducted by the CIA during the Cold War era. This resulted in a lack of trust between the CIA and American people, and inspired popular culture including conspiracy theories and television shows such as Stranger Things. This also led to drugs becoming more popular and normal as people began gaining easier access. This sudden outbreak of drugs and trouble with the CIA resulted in a great sense of insecurity amongst normal civilians, scaring everyone. These experiments were kept under wraps by the CIA. Even today, it isn’t well known by people because if it was, people wouldn’t have the same trust in the CIA and wouldn’t be okay with what they do.
